Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is an independent statutory agency established by the Food Standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991. FSANZ is part of the Australian Government's Health and Ageing portfolio. The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Ageing, the Hon Shayne Neumann MP, has executive responsibility for FSANZ. An agreement or Treaty between the governments of Australia and New Zealand establishes FSANZ's role in setting joint food standards, i.e. standards that apply in both countries. FSANZ develops food standards to cover the food industry in Australia and New Zealand. We develop the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code which regulates the use of ingredients, processing aids, colourings, additives, vitamins and minerals. The code also covers the composition of some foods e.g. dairy, meat and beverages as well as standards developed by new technologies such as genetically modified foods. We are also responsible for labelling for both packaged and unpackaged food, including specific mandatory warnings or advisory labels.

The Forest Products Commission (FPC) was established in November 2000. Its role is to develop, market and sustainably manage the State’s high quality renewable timber resources for the people of Western Australia. The Commission works with industry to deliver economic and social benefits in the regions. FPC operates under an Act of parliament as a Statutory Authority. This enables the agency to engage in commercial forestry activities in State-owned native forests and plantations. Old growth forests are protected by law. Our management of the forests has been recognised in achieving Australian Forestry Standard (AFS) accreditation. AFS is a recognised international certification for sustainable forest management. This accreditation is based on rigorous independent auditing and is recognition of FPC’s ongoing commitment to sustainable forest practices.
